Converting Color to Black and White in Photoshop

*It is better to start with a color image so that you can have a larger range of channels to manipulate in Photoshop

There are many ways to convert your image and each has slightly different outcomes.

1. Desaturate your image in the Hue/Saturation Adjustments Layer

2. Use the Black & White Adjustments Layer                                                    (Adjust the sliders for each color channel, use tint, click and drag inside the image to adjust the corresponding channels)

3. Create Effects by dragging a color layer above your black and White Adjustment Layer and then adjusting the opacity and mode

  

4. Use the Grayscale Conversion in the Camera Raw Window

(Click Convert to Grayscale and then adjust the sliders in each color)
